Monday, May 23, 2011, at 5:30 p.m.   The Downtown Advisory Group meeting, hosted by Museum Plaza, heard Craig Greenburg discuss the pivotal role Museum Plaza played in saving the historic Whiskey Row from the wrecking ball. 

April 21, 2011, 7:30 - 9:00 a.m.  "The State of the Downtown: Trends, Comparisons & Policy Imperatives"
Presentation by Paul Coomes, Professor of Economics at the University of Louisville, and Alan DeLisle, Executive Director of the Louisville Downtown Development Corporation.   
An inaugural presentation of benchmarking data and policy imperatives for the successful future of Downtown Louisville, as it faces regional and national competition from comparable downtowns was held at the Seelbach Hotel for a breakfast gathering of over 300 people.  The Honorable Greg Fischer, Mayor of Louisville Metro, James Alan, of Hilliard Lyons, and Jim Welch of Brown-Forman also spoke.

Rick Hill, of Villiage Solutions Company presentation on "Downtown's Retail Potential"
In January, the Louisville Downtown Development Corporation hired Rick Hill, of Village Solutions Company, to conduct a comprehensive retail market analysis of downtown Louisville.  On March 7th, the LDDC held a free public meeting at the Brown Hotel to review the outline of the preliminary retail vision for downtown Louisville and to allow the public an opportunity to provide input and feedback. By the beginning of April, Village Solutions will deliver a comprehensive retail market analysis that will clearly explain the current saturation level of retail in Downtown Louisville.  It will examine the impact that residents, visitors, and workers have on downtown retail and make recommendations regarding the feasibility of a successful downtown retail district.

A Conversation with David Feehan:  "Downtown: Ours, Theirs, Everyone's"
The Louisville Downtown Development Corporation hosted a free, open-to-the-public discussion with David Feehan.  David Feehan is an international recognized expert on downtown revitalization.  He is currently the principal at Civitas Consultants.  For more than forty years, he has provided leadership and management to sucessful downtown and business district organizations, founded and directed a technical assistance center for community development organizations and a public policy organization, authored numerous books and articles, and taught at two universities.  The discussion was held at the Hilliard Lyons conference center and drew about 100 people.
